7th grade Computer Lab Day 2: Researching Your Career


Researching with the Computer

Directions: Complete these 3 steps before the end of our period in the computer lab.

1. Check to make sure you have facts in your articles that answer these questions: (10minutes)

  • Salary- How much do you make a year?

  • Benefits- What are the "perks" of the job or career? Fame? Change the World? Health Care?

  • Schedule- What is a typical day like in this career? When do you wake up? How long do you have to work?

  • Education/ Training - What college or vocational school must you go to succeed in this career?

  • Skills- What must you be able to do in order to do this job well?

  • Plan B-  What other careers could someone with the same education and skills could obtain within the same field?

2. Fill-in graphic organizers A,B,C,D with this information. (15minutes)

**Be sure to begin your Interpretation column with "This is important because" this will become your analysis for your body paragraphs.

3. Exit Slip: Answer these questions in the last 10 minutes of class.

** DO NOT write the questions.

1. Describe what your feature article would look like. What pictures, headlines, or subtitles would you use to engage the reader?

2. Explain one example of your career that you have researched that makes it interesting to you. Why should I be interested in this career?
