One aspect of the article that interested me was the question about how the author felt when he was fired from Paramount Pictures. They had rejected all the eight screenplays he wrote for the film adaptation-- for his own book! However, when he was on the set of the film, Paramount Pictures asked for his opinion regarding the color at the bottom of the lake. He said. “It was the most boring thing I’d ever looked at in my life,” (Goldman). It sounded like a dull experience...just like the movie adaptation Paramount Pictures made of his book. Blah!
ReplyDeleteThe part in this article that was interested was the question in which the journalist asked the author if he blamed Brad Silberling for his failure in financial reasoning due to his book. The author answered the question truthfully and gaved an ecstatic metaphor comparing how he felt about Silberling and a suit of armor. "He's a sweetheart of a man,so the idea that you would be mad at him really for anything feels like getting dressed up in a suit of armor and attacking a plate of whipped cream"(Goldman) This quote is significant because it proves that the author doesn't blame really anyone for his failure(s). In addition, the quote also means that the author is not just going to attack a helpless/soft person for his own petty reasons.
ReplyDeleteThe most interesting section of this article, for me, was when he talks about being fired. Daniel Handler states that he in fact was not "bitter" after he got fired by Paramount Pictures. His exact words are 'No, not really. After I was fired, I bought a drink for everybody in the Burbank airport lounge."In addition, I find that the fact that as a kid Daniel Handler was scared of a lot quite funny. Daniel said "I was scared of a lot. I had an attic bedroom, and I was scared that there were tall trees that someone could climb up and from the tops of the trees leap onto the window." This is paramount because it shows that growing up, Daniel Handler wasn't insensible.
ReplyDeleteWhat I found interesting about the article was when Daniel Koch asked David "do you feel similar spending money"? Davids response was "no, because a lot of money I give away feels like amends". Davids income tax goes to types of things such as the art and womens organizations. He says he bekieves that he amends towards the organizations. Davis is also proud that his philosophy is not inline with the Koch brothers. This interested me because not a lot of people spend their money on a good causes. People usually spend their money on theirselves.
